Many seminars and workshops are very informative and most of us come away with something to add to our training box.  Very few actually offer the opportunity of practical experience.  When working with anti-social behaviour, we feel that one of the most important elements is just that - practical experience.

Of course, safety of both dog and delegate is paramount. However, a correctly structured workshop can offer the delegate practical experience in a safe environment.  In our opinion, practical experience is essential in the ART of rehabilitation. Actions really do speak louder than words!

The Association of Rehabilitation Trainers was therefore founded by Kym Lawrence and Angela Stockdale in March 1999

Kym and Angela have many years 'hands on' experience in the rehabilitation of problem behaviour in dogs, particularly of those based in aggression.  Their mutual interest in Working Trials brought them together over ten years ago.  They found that they also shared another interest - anti-social behaviour in dogs. Whilst working geographically some distance apart, they discovered that their approach and techniques in rehabilitating such dogs were almost identical.  As their friendship grew so did their enthusiasm for working with delinquent canines. Recognising that there were other behaviourists and trainers who shared their enthusiasm, A.R.T. was formed.

The prime objectives of which are:

to offer a professional body to promote the specialist rehabilitation trainer
to uphold an agreed standard for its members so that other professional bodies recognise and have confidence in our specific expertise in the field of canine behaviour modification
to bring together like-minded people for mutual discussion & support
to hold regular workshops where members could suggest new techniques/approaches

Supported by several members of The Association of Pet Behavioural Counsellors, A.R.T. will also supply veterinary surgeons  and recognised behaviourists a register of approved members.
